The International Non Profit Conservation Organization, Rainforest Alliance , recently announced Costa Rica Nature Air as a 2008 Honoree to be recognized for Leadership in Sustainability and Support of Conservation Work.

The event took place at New York American Museum of Natural History and honored global leaders from all sectors in the tourism industry. The Rainforest Alliance was created over 20 years ago and has since diligently worked in educating world wide companies to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable occupations. The hard work has paid off as more and more businesses and consumers come to realize the positive impact they can have on the earth agriculture, forests and tourism.

Nature Air was honored within the Corporate Sustainable Standard Setters category along with New York Mohawk Fine Papers.

Costa Rica Nature Air is a family owned domestic airline which has become the world first airline to become carbon neutral and emissions free. Nature Air uses its 4,650 ton carbon credits to help fund the reforestation of the Osa Peninsula in Costa Rica South Pacific Coast. The Osa Peninsula offers one of the most biological diverse rainforests in Central America.

Nature Air has also applied environmentally friendly practices to its general operations such as replacing traditional light bulbs with energy saving light bulbs, limiting and recycling copy paper and improving flight plans in order to conserve fuel.

On the social area, Nature Air has developed its Nature Kids program which teaches English and environmental awareness to low income children and their family.

Other categories honored by the Rainforest Alliance were the Lifetime Achievement Awardee which went to His Royal Highness the Prince of Whales, Corporate Green Globe Awards and ?2008 Gala Co-Chairs.
