The annual event attracts over 45,000 professionals from the tourism sector of over 202 countries and regions. Costa Rica has taken part in this very important event as part of its worldwide promotion as a tourism destination.
President of the Costa Rican Chamber of Tourism, Gonzalo Vargas, mentioned that Costa Rica has decided to participate in this high profile event as it opens the possibility of attracting more European tourists.
Costa Rica is participating in the World Travel Market as part of the Central American stand. Although the stand represents the entire Central American region, each county will be presenting its individual attractions and destinations.
Within the main Central America stand, Costa Rica occupies 35 individual stands that will be hosted by members of the Costa Rican Bureau of Tourism, the Chamber of Tourism and a number of business owners directly linked with the industry such as tour operators, hotels, airlines and car rentals.
The objective of this participation is to promote the entire region for long distance tourists such as the case of the European and Asian market. Vargas mentioned that for the before mentioned market, the presentation of the product must offer a wide variety of destinations and attractions so that the traveler can make the most out of his or her journey.
In 2007, Costa Rica received 271,631 European tourists of which the majority came from Spain, Germany and London.
