Dollar Continues Strong in Costa Rica Costa Rican January Myths
Jan 06

It all started in 1969 when Costa Rican commercial pilot Walter Morales flew over the dense Corcovado region in Costa Rica?s South Pacific Coast. The unfolding of the dense rainforest into the turquoise colored ocean caught Morales?s attention and triggered the dream of owning a piece of land in the area.

Even before the potential of ecotourism in Costa Rica was seriously taken into consideration, Morales had the vision of being able to show the rest of the world the beauty and rich biodiversity of the Corcovado area.

Years after he first fell in love with the land, Morales had the opportunity to return and purchase 40 acres of land at La Leona gorge near the protected Corcovado National Park. Morales and his wife Salma studied the region?s potentials as well as risks and ventured into created one of Costa Rica?s first eco-lodges in the South Pacific Coast.

Considered pioneers in the eco-lodge concept, the Morales family today enjoys the visit of hundreds of guests who seek out their lodge while experiencing one of the most biologically intense places on earth.

La Leona Ecolodge is comprised of twenty double and single tents set up on wooden platforms that offer privacy and an exceptional view of the Pacific Ocean. Wooden platforms are built from certified Melina wood, teak and bamboo. The design of these tents has allowed for a minimal impact on the surrounding flora and fauna.

Each tent has its own private deck from which the cool ocean breeze and soothing sound of the rainforest can be enjoyed. The Jardines del Mar restaurant at La Leona Ecolodge is a roofed open air restaurant that serves typical Costa Rican meals as well as international cuisine.

A number of activities are available at La Leona Ecolodge thanks to its proximity to the amazing Corcovado National Park. The personnel at La Leona Ecolodge can help you plan your visit to the park as well as engage in several other activities that include horseback riding, a visit to the Rio Carate Waterfalls, artisan Gold searching tour, nocturnal tours and much more.
