American Airlines Limits Luggage to Latin America During Holiday Season

American Airlines as well as American Eagle have released a notice in which they limit passenger luggage to the majority of Latin America and the Caribbean.  The luggage limitation issued by the airlines includes size and weight as well as carry on pieces.

Peter Dolara, VP for the Latin American and Caribbean division, mentioned that the airline seeks to consider every passenger’s needs during the holiday seasons and offer the best service possible.  Luggage size and weight as well as carry-ons will be according to the aircraft’s size.

The luggage limitation will be effective until January 10, 2009 and will include the cities of Cali, Colombia; Tegucigalpa, Honduras; Medellin, Colombia; Kingston, Jamaica and Maracaibo, Venezuela.

Other cities also included in the luggage restriction program are Port au Prince, Haiti; La Paz, Bolivia; Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic; Santa Cruz, Bolivia; Santiago, Dominican Republic; Quito, Ecuador; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; San Salvador, El Salvador; Guadalajara, Mexico; San Pedro Sula, Honduras y and Mexico City.

It is important to notice that the holiday luggage restriction is added to the already existing restriction American Airlines has from JFK to Latin America and the Caribbean throughout the entire year.  All passengers traveling to Latin America and the Caribbean from or through JFK are subject to box restrictions.

The airlines have announced that all excess luggages will not be boarded on planes traveling to the cities that have been announced above. Passengers will be limited to a total of two pieces of luggage of a maximum of 50lbs. each and a carry-on piece.

Special sport equipment such as bicycles, surf boards and golf clubs will be accepted as luggage although they might incur in an extra fee.
