Ojo de Agua Park, San Antonio de Belen
One of Costa Rica most popular and oldest aquatic parks is the Ojo de Agua Park. The name Ojo de Agua translates to a water spring from fresh cool water gushes out. The park is located in the town of San Antonio de Belen in the province of Heredia .
Do not confuse the town Ojo de Agua with the aquatic park that is located near the Juan Santamaria International Airport. The park is easily accessed from downtown San Jose and can take about 20 to 30 minutes to get there.
The park has an interesting characteristic, as for its Olympic size swimming pool is constantly being fed by fresh spring water. A total of 362 liters per second flow out of the spring and is directed to the only public swimming pool with fresh water.
The park has a special promotion going on for the mid year vacations and is a great alternative for spending the day in the sun and water. For many families that find it difficult to head out to the beach with their family, the park has an entrance fee of approximately $2. The entrance fee allows visitors the use of the swimming pools and the recreational areas such as picnic areas and basketball courts.
The park recently installed a 52ft long slide with a 23ft drop called the Splash Storm. There is also a canopy and the man made lake that allows visitors to rent kayaks and enjoy the lake.
The use of the Splash Storm as well as the canopy has an extra cost for its use. The park also has picnic areas that also have grilling facilities for those who enjoy a nice barbecue. The park also has food stands and a restaurant for those who would like to totally relax.
The park will open every day from 6am to 5pm during vacations and will offer a courtesy pass for any other day should it rain before 1pm during your visit.
The Ojo de Agua Park represents one of Costa Rica most popular recreational areas for the last couple of decades.
